Preliminary flood hazard maps from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD), and the City of Alpharetta were released in October 2011. An official appeals period is now being offered for any property owner concerned that the new maps do not accurately depict flood risk. Appeals require scientific proof that the proposed maps are incorrect by either a professional engineer or registered land surveyor.
The appeals process is explained in detail online at http://www.georgiadfirm.com/pdf/Appeals%20Process-Final.pdf and http://www.georgiadfirm.com/pdf/Appeal%20Petition_EAP_Final.pdf
Anyone planning to appeal must submit all information including back up data to the Engineering / Public Works Department of the City of Alpharetta by July 1, 2012 to the attention of Jill Bazinet. Questions should be submitted by email to jbazinet@alpharetta.ga.us
