Alpharetta Under Tropical Storm Watch – Complete Storm Prep Today

Released September 25, 2024 02:18 PM
Alpharetta is now under a Tropical Storm Watch issued by the National Weather Service in advance of Hurricane Helene’s arrival in our area.  This will be a significant weather event, and we will begin feeling its impacts Thursday night through Friday.  Residents should prepare for:

   *  Rainfall of 4 to 10 inches with localized amounts over 12 inches
   *  Sustained winds of 60mph with wind gusts exceeding 70mph
   *  Widespread downing of trees
   *  Significant power outages with possible extended periods of power loss

Residents should be completing preparations for this storm today.  Preparations should include:

   *  Moving or securing outdoor furniture and other items weighing less than 25 pounds
   *  Fully charge mobile phones and computers and keep them fully charged
   *  Check batteries in flashlights and lanterns
   *  Make certain you have available food that does not require refrigeration or cooking
   *  Clear debris from storm drains
   *  Make certain you have a way to get severe weather warnings

We recommend having a NOAA all hazards radio in your home and turning on emergency alerts on your smartphone so you receive warnings even when in “do not disturb” mode (visit https://www.weather.gov/wrn/wea to learn more).

Please continue to monitor information from the National Weather Service and local news and weather broadcasts.  Storms such as Helene can bring rapidly changing conditions.
