Alpharetta residents will have a new option for recycling glass beginning September 12 when the City of Alpharetta opens a new drop-off center. The center will be located in the parking lot of the Alpharetta Department of Public Works located at 1790 Hembree Road.
It is important to note that only glass can be dropped off at the 1790 Hembree Road location. Other recyclables and trash will not be accepted and if deposited in the recycling containers may result in loads of otherwise recyclable glass being diverted to area landfills.
Glass left at the new drop-off site will be transported to the Strategic Materials recycling plant located in College Park. The facility recycles most types of glass and sells their product to Georgia companies that manufacture consumer products like fiberglass insulation and flooring.
When it opens on September 12, the new Alpharetta glass recycling site will be available to Alpharetta residents 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. While it is an unstaffed facility, security cameras and license plate readers on site will enable the City to identify those who improperly dispose of items. Violators will be cited, and the City intends to seek the maximum penalties allowed by law.
