Motorists are advised that the intersection of Roswell Street and Marietta Street in Downtown Alpharetta is being changed to a 4-way stop intersection beginning Wednesday, August 7. Vehicular traffic approaching the intersection from any direction will be required to come to a complete stop before proceeding.
The City of Alpharetta is making this change to improve safety for motorists and pedestrians traveling through this area.
On August 1, crews from the City of Alpharetta began the installation of the temporary elements necessary to implement the 4-way stop intersection. The work includes the removal of the northbound left turn lane from Roswell Street onto Marietta Street, the removal of existing lane markings, application of new temporary striping, and the installation of new stop signs. The work will be completed on August 2, but the new stop signs will remain covered until Wednesday, August 7 when the 4-way stop will become active.
Beginning August 1, motorists will see variable message boards advising that the new traffic pattern will begin August 7.
The new 4-way stop configuration for the Roswell Street / Marietta Street intersection is the first element in a larger change that is coming to the Roswell Street Corridor. The City will release bid documents later this year to construct pedestrian improvements on the east side of Roswell Street from Old Milton Parkway to Old Roswell Street. The improvements, which are part of the Alpha Loop trail network, include a 12-foot-wide sidewalk and the narrowing of vehicular travel lanes on Roswell Street. Construction of those improvements is anticipated to begin in early 2025.
