REMINDER: As originally published on August 31, 2023, the City of Alpharetta’s municipal election was cancelled this year due to none of the races being contested.
With the qualifying period for Alpharetta’s municipal elections having passed and only a single candidate having qualified in each of the races that were to be on the 2023 Alpharetta general election ballot, the City has canceled this year’s municipal election. The move will save approximately $379,408 that can now be redirected to other projects and initiatives to benefit Alpharetta residents and taxpayers.
Alpharetta Mayor Jim Gilvin and incumbent Council Members John Hipes and Dan Merkel drew no opposition in their bids to retain their respective seats. Post 5 Council Member Jason Binder did not seek re-election, and that race drew only a single candidate, Fergal M. Brady.
Under provisions of Georgia law, each unopposed candidate is considered to have won election, and the election is canceled.
