The City of Alpharetta has adopted a plan that sets a new vision for the development and revitalization of a large section of the Windward Parkway and State Route 9 Corridors. The master plan, which was approved during the March 18 city council meeting, was jointly developed by the Cities of Alpharetta and Milton and True North 400.
Development of the Windward Parkway / State Route 9 Master Plan began in February 2023 and took a full year to complete. The process relied heavily on the input of residents and employees who either live or work within the boundaries of the plan area. That input pointed to a few key points that influenced the plan’s recommendations:
• Traffic congestion and a need for improved mobility
• A lack of park spaces and local experiences
• A need for improved development and amenities in the district
This led to several important recommendations including the construction of additional connections and trailheads for the Big Creek Greenway, creating pedestrian improvements along Windward Parkway, redeveloping existing commercial properties to provide a better mix of uses, and increasing residential opportunities.
