FAQs

Is burning allowed in the city?

No persons shall cause, suffer, allow or permit open burning of refuse, rubbish, brush, wood, trash, leaves, tree limbs or other combustible materials anywhere in the city. Exceptions are listed in Sec. 20-8 in the Alpharetta City Ordinances.
What is the Compliance Engine?

The Compliance Engine is a web-based service that allows the Fire Marshal’s Office to track all fire and life safety systems in the City. All fire and life safety vendors are required to upload all inspection reports to this service to be in compliance with Alpharetta City Ordinance 783.
I submitted plans, when will I have them released?

Plans generally have a 10 business day turn-around.
When should I test my smoke detector/alarm?

Smoke detectors/alarms should be tested every year. Replacement should be done by the date noted on the alarm/detector.
I received a citation, what do I do?

All citations require a mandatory court appearance. Be sure to read and understand all instructions on your citations. For additional questions, please contact the Alpharetta City Court Services at 678-297-6250.
I have new keys for my business, do I need to tell the fire department?

If you have a sprinkler system or fire alarm located in your business, then you need to provide updated keys. You can call 678-297-6272 to schedule a time to secure your keys in the emergency Knox box.
Do I need a permit for my tent?

Yes, all temporary tents need to file an application with the city. Upon approval you will need to schedule a fire inspection for the tent.
How do I submit plans?

All plans must be submitted electronically through ePlan Solutions.
Can fire truck visit our school/HOA?

Absolutely! To schedule a fire truck visit, please visit our Public Education section.
Birthday parties at fire station?

Birthday parties are not offered at fire stations at this time. However, you may choose to request a Public Safety Parade to come to your home or place of party.
How do I access a fire report?

You may request a fire report through the Open Records Request Portal at https://www.alpharetta.ga.us/government/open-records-request
I was told I need a fire watch, what forms do I need?

If you were instructed to complete a fire watch, you must complete the Alpharetta Fire Watch Log
How do I order Knox Products?

You may order Knox Products at www.knoxbox.com and selecting Alpharetta as the jurisdiction to give approval for you to purchase the product being ordered.
I received a false alarm notice, what happens next?

A fire inspector will follow up with the false alarm to ensure repairs are completed. Additional false alarms may result in fines or court appearances.
