The Fire Marshal’s Office reviews engineer, architectural, and site plans prior to any construction or modifications within the city. This ensures that all buildings are held to the highest and most current fire and life safety codes and standards, making Alpharetta one of the safest cities in the nation.

Plan Review and Inspection Procedures
When is a Permit Required?
A permit is required whenever a fire and life safety system is being installed or modified.
Permits may also be required for instances of special use, such as tents or a public display of fireworks.
Permit vs. Limited Work Permit
A permit is required for sprinkler work that involves more than 10 sprinkler heads that are being modified. Less than 10 sprinkler heads only requires a Scope of Work Letter.
A permit is required for fire alarm systems that have 5 or more devices being modified. Less than 5 devices only requires a Scope of Work Letter.
All work requires a Letter of Certification upon completion of the project.
