Weather permitting, the Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) and contractors will implement daily, single-lane closures on Kimball Bridge Road over the next two weeks. Crews will alternate right and left lane closures in order to complete utility testing in advance of necessary work to begin construction. As part of the work, crews will drill holes into the ground to confirm the locations of utilities installed on the bridge. Traffic on State Route (SR) 400 will not be impacted by this work.
Lane closures will be in place Monday, October 24 through Friday, November 4, from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM, excluding weekends, on Kimball Bridge Road between North Point Parkway and Northwinds Parkway.
Flagging operations will be in place to control the flow of traffic around the closures. Motorists are advised to drive with caution and expect delays during operations.
These activities are for the upcoming SR 400 Phase 1 Design-Build project which replaces the Pitts Road, Roberts Drive, and Kimball Bridge Road bridges over SR 400. The three overpass bridges will be replaced with wider, taller structures to accommodate the future express lanes along SR 400. As part of the bridge replacements, multiuse paths will be incorporated into the new bridges. The updated structures will provide operational and local road improvements in advance of the major express lanes’ construction anticipated in 2024.
