Crews from our Public Works Department and our contracted tree removal vendor will be working through the weekend as the cleanup from last night’s storm moves to the debris remaining from trees that were removed from roadway and limbs and other debris in the public rights-of-way. It is likely that this work will continue into Monday, but we have moved out of the recovery phase and into cleanup.
We want to thank everyone for your patience and cooperation during this process.
We also want to extend special appreciation to the crews from Georgia Power and Sawnee EMC who have been hard at work over the last 24 hours restoring electric service to area homes and businesses. That is tough work that requires strength, fortitude, and problem solving skills, and we are thankful for each and every one of you.
(July 21 - 8:58 AM)
The recovery from last night’s storms continues this morning. City crews worked throughout the night but are still clearing trees and limbs from roadways and power lines. The east side of Alpharetta seems to have taken the biggest hits from the storm and is our area of main activity. Areas such as Bent Creek, Clipper Bay, Evergreen Lane, Park Bridge Parkway, and Schooner Ridge still require significant work.
When the City is in recovery mode following storm events, our crews prioritize debris removal in the following order:
* Work necessary to address immediate threats to public health and safety
* Work necessary to ensure access by emergency and utility crews
- Work necessary to clear major arterial roadways
- Work necessary to clear roads in neighborhoods that have only one means of ingress/egress
* Work necessary to clear debris from utility lines so that electric utilities can be restored
* Clearing of other streets and roads
* Clearing of sidewalks and collection of debris placed at roadside during other recovery efforts
We appreciate your patience and understanding while this work continues.
As you travel today, please be aware of Public Works crews and utility linemen working in and near the road. These individuals have been working throughout the night to bring Alpharetta back to normal, so please slow down and give them space to work safely.
