The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) will close Wills Road near its intersection with State Route 9 beginning Monday, August 7. The closure, which is related to the construction of the State Route 9 Improvement Project, will be in place through February 2024.
The closure will impact motorists who typically use Wills Road to travel between State Route 9 and Old Milton Parkway. Detour signs will be in place to guide these motorists to other travel routes.
* State Route 9 traffic heading eastbound toward Wills Road northbound will be detoured past Wills to Old Milton Parkway; westbound (left) on Old Milton Parkway to Wills Road
* State Route 9 traffic heading westbound toward Wills Road northbound will be detoured past Wills to Northmeadow Parkway; southbound (left) on Northmeadow to Hembree Road; eastbound (left) on Hembree to Wills; northbound (left) to State Route 9; eastbound (right) to Old Milton Parkway
* Wills Road traffic heading southbound toward State Route 9 will be detoured to Old Milton Parkway; eastbound (right) to State Route 9
Motorists who travel State Route 9 in the vicinity of the work zone are reminded to reduce speed and be on the lookout for construction workers, equipment, and changing traffic patterns.
According to GDOT, the road closure will help ensure the safety of drivers and work crews during the reconstruction on the western side of Willis Road. Reducing traffic access to the area will also allow on-time completion of the work.
