SR9 Improvement Project News Graphic

Maxwell Road Intersection Closed Through October

Released July 23, 2024 05:13 PM
The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has informed the City of Alpharetta that the intersection of Maxwell Road at State Route 9 will remain closed through October.  The closure was put in place in mid-June to ensure the safety of the public and the construction crew working on the realignment of the intersection.

Motorists are advised to use the following detours to get around the road closure:

State Route 9 Northbound

Traffic will be detoured past Maxwell Road to turn right (eastbound) on Old Milton Parkway, to turn right (southbound) on Haynes Bridge Road, then to turn right (westbound) onto Morrison Parkway, and finally to turn right (northbound) onto Maxwell Road.

State Route 9 Southbound

Traffic will be detoured past Maxwell Road to turn right (southbound) onto Northmeadow Parkway, then to a left (eastbound) turn onto Hembree Road, and finally to a left (northbound) turn onto Maxwell Road.

Maxwell Road

Traffic on the open portion of Maxwell Road can access State Route 9 by traveling southbound on Maxwell to Hembree Road and then turning either left or right onto Hembree Road to complete the detour route.

The realignment of the Maxwell Road intersection is related to GDOT's State Route 9 Improvement Project.  In communication that the agency sent to the City of Alpharetta on July 22, 2024, GDOT states that the project is scheduled for completion in spring of 2025.
